Despite forgetting the words to "We Can Work It Out", David sailed into the Top 11. This week is once again Beatles song. David Archuleta sang "The Long and Winding Road", the last Number One song from the Beatles.
At the end of the song, the girls couldn't stop screaming, and it was a while before Randy could get a word in.
Randy Jackson: Alright, David, check it out - they've a right to clap because David Archuleta has brought the hottest back to his game tonight. One thing - let me give you one piece of advise - that's the thing man, it's a little maturity but that's the kind of song that you could have sung a couple of wrongs and got by with it, so you played it a little safe, but I'm saying, take a little liberty on joys like that. Very nice though.
Paula Abdul: This probably to me is the most exciting and wonderful performance because of the purity of who you are and how you sound is very identifiable and the fact you can rise above adversity come back strong, that challenge does not build character, it reveals character and you're wonderful.
Simon Cowell: OK, David, last week was a complete mess. This week I thought you were amazing. You were absolutely - you made my point. While I was trying to say with the previous contestant, it is so important that you sell a song, and you remember a performance. And that, was a master class.
David was beaming from cheek to cheek. Even Ryan Seacrest commented that the girls couldn't stop screaming. "You look stunned," he said. "Do you find yourself more comfortable with the slower songs?"
"You can get really sensitive. I think those songs help," said David, "like those songs are the ones that people can connect with."
